Let me explain the each word of Hyper Converged Infrastructure in short HCI. I am breaking down the words in three parts as written below to give you better understanding what is Hyper Converged Infrastructure HCI.
There is three components of each word Hyper Converged Infrastructure HCI
- Hyper – Compute, Storage, Network
- Converge – Come together into one
- Infrastructure – Services , Basic system, Framework
- Hyper means – that is exists in a space of more than three dimensions. in the same way – the Computer machine is made by three or more components like Compute, Storage and Network. So, Hyper means three or more components.
- Converge means – When two or more things come together from different directions / dimensions to joining together, eventually to meet at a place to evolving into one Converge system.
- Infrastructure means – Underlying structure of services and basic system that needs in framework to function properly in order to achieve something.
Hyper Converged Infrastructure Means: Finally you have the exact meaning of “Hyper-Converge Infrastructure HCI – When three or more components ( Compute, Storage and Network ) comes together from different directions / diamensions to meet at single place / point ( Hardware Software System ) then that is called Hyper-Converged Infrastructure HCI.
Hyper Converged infrastructure HCI is the core concept to integrate two or more components i.e compute, storage and networking in a single unit to works together to distribute, balance and accomplish the task.
Hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) is a software-defined IT infrastructure that virtualizes all of the elements of conventional “hardware-defined” systems.
HCI includes, at a minimum, virtualized computing (a hypervisor), a virtualised SAN (software-defined storage) and virtualized networking (software-defined networking). Multiple nodes can be clustered together to create pools of shared compute and storage resources, designed for convenient consumption.
