Nutanix is no longer developing Nutanix AOS version in LTS (Long Term Support) and STS (Short Term Support) this approach will make AOS release more stable and robust for customers production environment.

AOS bundle No Longer Includes AHV Hypervisor
Nutanix development team also de-coupled the AHV hypervisor binary from AOS bundle AOS v6.8 or later to minimize the AOS size and complexity.
Therefore, customer needs to download the AHV hypervisor bundle from Nutanix Support Portal.
Nutanix AOS LTS Vs STS
There is major difference between AOS LTS vs STS as mentioned below:
Nutanix AOS LTS (Long Term Support)
- Customer get more advance & minor features with AOS LTS release
- Major and minor bug fixes More reliable and stable release
- Recommended for mission critical production environment as well
- Frequent upgrades are not required
- AOS LTS release bugs are fixed in regular AOS LTS releases
- Customers that are interested in a release family with an extended support
Nutanix AOS STS (Short Term Support)
- Customers get new features on early release
- AOS upgrade is free to any AOS STS release, no cost applies
- Bug fixes are faster in STS
- AOS STS release very quarter
- It’s not mandatory to upgrade for each customer
- Minor bug fixes
- Customers that are interested in adopting new trial major features and are able to perform upgrades multiple times a year
Finally, no more confusion to choose which Nutanix AOS version needs to be install/upgrade. Now go for standard AOS version and let’s Nutanix cluster enjoy the AOS services.
