Nutanix CVM

Nutanix Controller Virtual Machine (CVM) is a specialized, Linux-based VM deployed on every node within a Nutanix cluster, serving as the core component of Nutanix’s distributed architecture. It handles critical functions such as storage management, cluster coordination, data replication, backup, and overall cluster health monitoring. Each CVM runs essential services like the Distributed Storage Fabric that manages local and distributed data I/O, ensuring high performance and data locality.

The CVMs collectively form a resilient, fault-tolerant system that maintains cluster functionality even if individual CVMs experience issues. This design enables seamless load balancing, resource optimization, and automated failover without impacting hosted virtual machines. The Nutanix CVM integrates tightly with Nutanix Prism to provide simplified management and monitoring interfaces. Its isolated deployment ensures security and stability, making it fundamental to Nutanix’s hyperconverged infrastructure operations, data protection, and multi-cloud management capabilities.
